This is the latest version of the Windows operating system, which features a new interface and other new features, such as the new Microsoft Store, a new AI-powered personal feed, and the best-in-class browser performance Microsoft Edge, integrated into the taskbar. What’s new in Windows 11: – Windows 11 gets a completely new look. Microsoft clearly needs a good reason to back down from its previous claims and abandon Windows 10 anyway by introducing a new operating system number. And a completely new design is ideal for this. The Redmond giant has long been preparing a redesign of the update under the codename Sun Valley (“Sun Valley”) – under this name, apparently, Windows 11 was available.
– Launch and system elements float above the bottom bar
The Sun Valley project flashed online for a long time – Microsoft regularly published details about the new interface style, insiders shared previously unknown information, and designers popular in their circles drew realistic concepts based on all this information. Start is the calling card and face of every current version of Windows. It is not surprising that the developers are redesigning it again in Windows 11, although not so much in a functional sense as in a visual sense – the Start window floats above the bottom bar. We must admit that this small change makes the look of the system much fresher. According to information on the Internet, Microsoft is not radically changing the “insides” of this menu – innovations affect only the design of the window itself.
– Straight corners disappear and are replaced by curves
The Control Panel floats, and its design exactly corresponds to the “Start”. . The Action Center is combined with control keys – a similar one has long been used in some other operating systems. Almost all mentions of this new menu indicate that it is an island – the control buttons are in a separate bar, notifications in another, and certain items (such as the player) in another separate bar. In reality, insiders and concept designers disagree on this issue – some are convinced that Microsoft will not change its traditions and maintain straight corners, while others are convinced that Microsoft will follow the fashion for curves in 2021.
– There is a translucent background and blur everywhere
The latter fits better with the definition of “all-new Windows” – floating menus alone are not enough for the new look to be considered truly new. Curves are expected to affect practically everything in the system, from context menus and system panels to all application windows. The opinions of concept designers differ on this issue as well – some draw curves on all kinds of UI elements, others combine them with straight corners. There are disagreements on the Internet about the island style of the window display, the design of the corners and the floating effect of the menu, but almost everyone agrees on the transparency of the windows. Most leaks and design renders show transparency and blurring in all windows, be it at least the Start menu or Explorer.
– A new font, which was already shown
Moreover, these effects are even included in the composition of the canceled Windows 10X operating system, which Microsoft developed in parallel with the Sun Valley project for devices with two displays and weak hardware. The so-called acrylic transparency means the use of new effects when hovering over elements, as well as larger distances between elements – the areas of the interface with which the user interacts will certainly increase, and the titles of the pages will become thicker. Windows 11 will probably use the default responsive font Segoe UI Variable, which appeared already in Windows 10 Build 21376 for Insiders. Its advantage is that it is equally suitable for small texts as for large labels.
