The DC Studios logo is seen in a rainy Gotham alley
Scenario
EnglishFollowing the events of The Batman (2022), Oz Cobb, aka the Penguin, attempts to seize the reins of Gotham’s crime world. With the exception of the bat signal in the final shot of the season finale, we never got our Robert Pattinson cameo in “The Penguin.” In this short video, IMDb attempts to answer: Where the hell was Batman? Colin Farrell fought to have his version of the Penguin smoke tobacco in The Batman (2022), but was unsuccessful. For his own series, however, the character is depicted as a casual tobacco user, with a preference for cigars.
The tone and atmosphere are absolutely perfect
An umbrella falls and the logo changes to the Warner Bros. logo. Starring in Graham Norton and the Fans: Lady Gaga/Demi Moore/Colin Farrell/Richard Ayoade/Jack Savoretti (2024). It’s a sordid, grimy, dark movie, but Farrell is able to capture that glimmer of charm that Gandolfini’s Tony Soprano managed to do.
Where to start with Farrell
There are similarities to The Sopranos, especially in the tone. There’s a lot of dark stuff in this opening episode, but there are always comedic moments that fit the tone and don’t undermine it. Amazing is the right word. I love seeing talented actors give their all in roles like this, and the makeup/CGI or whatever it is that goes into transforming him into the Penguin physically not only passes the eye test, but it looks incredibly realistic.
And Farrell as an actor is completely immersed in this role
There’s always the risk that if the makeup isn’t good enough or is just a little off, it could be completely distracting. In the Penguin, it adds to his performance and the overall quality of the show because he does a damn good job. I may be a little biased since he was one of my favorite actors before this show, but I think this is going to earn him some well-deserved praise. I never really tune into new shows right away because I like to watch the episodes all at once, but I wanted to see how this one really played out.
Congratulations to everyone involved in this project
I wasn’t disappointed, in fact, it blew me away. Check out our recap of “Yellowstone” Season 5 Part 2, “Squid Game” Season 2, and more of the most anticipated new and returning series coming to TV and streaming.
