A girl who sees colors in people’s hearts joins a band with two other people.. Naoko Yamada’s fifth feature film.. I loved this film. There was a certain warmth to it – the warmth that Totsuko brought through her honest appreciations, the warmth that rests in new friendships, the warmth of forgiveness and acceptance, the warmth of spending time with those you love away from the distractions of life, and the warmth of creating art. I think of Totsuko’s prayer: “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” Life is hard, and perhaps the best thing is that just like Totsuko’s free spirit who sees colors, we too somehow find within ourselves the serenity, courage, and wisdom to see it through.
