Teenager Autumn Edison (Lumi Pollack) lives with her father in New York City
Scenario
After years in New York City, 14-year-old Autumn returns to the Amazon rainforest to save her childhood village and her beloved friend the jaguar. Spiritual remake of Mia i bijeli lav (2018), an earlier film by Gilles de Maistre. They left their home in the Amazon jungle and their tribe after her mother, an activist, was murdered 8 years earlier.
Her father had hidden letters from her tribal relatives
Loggers, poachers, and others are destroying the land around them. As a child, Autumn befriended a jaguar she named Hope. There is only one jaguar left in the area, and it is hunted relentlessly.
Fearing it is Hope, Autumn runs away from home in a desperate attempt to save her friend
She is followed by her agoraphobic teacher Anja (Emily Bett Rickards), who tries to protect her student despite being completely helpless herself. It reminds me a lot of those old Disney movies with unreal characters, unreal situations and unreal animals. At least this movie has its heart in the right place and some of the jungle locations are fantastic.
She’s there to provide comic relief
As far as unreal characters go, I’m more put off by the attempt with the Disney princesses. It’s ridiculous that they float down the river like in a cartoon. I don’t really have a problem with Anja.
The situation with the Amazon is a bit simplistic to say the least
The movie is nice and entertaining, but the inauthenticity overwhelms the better aspects.
